Artist exploration: Teresita Fernandez
This weekend I visited the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. While I was there I came by Fernandez’s work in the contemporary wing. Her Ghost (Vines) is a large laser cut steel work that encases the viewer. The mirror quality of steel challenges the audience to look within the reflection and through the work.
Her intricate patterns were what drew me in and I would be interested to learn more about the process of her work as well as explore how she deals with different mediums. Scale also plays a large role in this piece and the invitation to the viewer reminded me of Rothko’s intentions with his large scale paintings.
