Art Event 2: 2nd Year MFA Student Show
On Thursday I attended the Second Year MFA Student Show on campus. One of the pieces that caught my eye was Jaz Gaf's work. The pattern he displayed (which I'd replicated in my sketchbook at the top half) was most intriguing. Reading his artist statement, I saw that he also worked from patterns in nature, working in geography, nature, and culture. Although his piece was flat, he worked in layers, starting with a silkscreen print then adding in linear patterns. Mixing media in layers is something I would like to bring to my own work in patterns.
